We all tend to check our competitors’ back links. But I’ve found more value, a lot of the time, in using Ahrefs to check the most linked to pages of non commercial websites.
So it might be that I’m doing some work in the HR space and instead of looking at sites also offering HR consulting services, I go and look at the most linked to pages of HR magazines.
Or if I’m looking for ideas for a multitude of clients (and leaning towards data centric content which I like for link building) I go check out the most linked to pages on Statista (under the “best by links” report). You can then filter using various keywords for topics.
A quick look then at the context of the links (where they’re placed, why the links are there, which stat has been quoted) can give you ideas for what sort of stats pieces would have the potential to build links in your space.
